Treating Erectile Dysfunction In Young Men

Erectile Dysfunction (ED) happens when a penis does not get sufficient blood to generate and sustain an erection so that sexual intercourse could happen. For a man, ED means a disappointing sex life. This happens across all age groups, especially in men above 40 years of age. About 25 percent of ED patients are young men, below 25 years of age. Approximately five percent of young people suffer from complete ED.

ED is caused by multiple factors associated with lifestyle, psychological, or neurological issues. It can also be the side-effects of specific medications. The list of causes includes personal performance anxiety caused by nervousness to sustain an erection. It can also result from psychological disorders like schizophrenia and depression. Other reasons include diabetes triggered microvascular disease, penile abnormalities, and spinal cord injuries. Taking anti-depressants may also cause ED. If you suffer from ED, consult your doctor prior to taking any medication.

Positive lifestyle changes help

The incidence of ED among the under 25s is mostly due to poor diet, smoking, obesity, a paucity of exercise and excessive drinking. Diabetes could also be the cause. Relationship statuses also weigh in. A man could become healthy again by making positive diet and lifestyle changes. Whatever happens, you should consult a doctor for the last word. Medicines must be prescribed by a licensed physician.

ED has a few fundamental symptoms. These can be easily identified by the patient himself. Inability to get the erection and failure to maintain it to enjoy the sexual intercourse are signs of ED. Another sign is the penis will not be sufficiently firm to enjoy sexual intercourse. If these continue, the affected person could lose interest in sex altogether. ED complications are mild, with no effect on other bodily functions. However, it is to be noted that this could be the symptom of the much more serious problem of heart disease.

Exercise and the mind

Emotional distress due to ED could destroy a man's quality of life. The unsatisfactory sex life and the inability to become a father could take a psychological toll. There could be low esteem or embarrassment which may lead to relationship problems. Treatment of this condition varies from one man to another. A few could regain normal penile functioning after exercise - but most require medications.

Doctors familiar with the condition may prescribe lifestyle changes. Increasing the quantum of exercise is a common suggestion given by doctors. Quitting smoking and alcohol along with eating a healthy diet may help to cure ED. Many doctors prescribe medication which stimulates the flow of blood into the penis. Multiple drugs are available to achieve this end. It is advised that you consult a doctor before you take any medicine. Keep in mind that your doctor could change the medication if the physician believes that the medicine you take is itself the problem. You should not change the medication by yourself. If you are below 25 years of age, there is more than an even chance you can reverse ED.
