Symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Fatigue can be caused due to different types of illnesses like psychological diseases or even infections. It is recommended to consult your physician when you are experiencing excessive or persistent fatigue.CFS or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is featured by excessiveness tiredness or fatigue that does not get cured even after taking rest. Moreover, many times it is difficult to explain it through an underlying medical condition.

Usually, symptoms of CFS or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome appear all of a sudden. However, in some patients, the condition builds up gradually over several months or weeks. In fact, it is interesting to note that there may be a change in the symptoms within a day or between days. Often, the symptoms tend to exhibit remission or stop and then they relapse or start once again.

The symptoms of CFS cover a wide range. However, there is a basic set of symptoms, which may affect almost anyone who has CFS. The list of such core symptoms are as follows.

Not feeling well after being active

It means that you start feeling weak or ill. It could be also possible that your symptoms of CFS are even worse. You may find that there is a delay even before it begins. You may start feeling better after 24 hours.

Excessive mental fatigue, physical fatigue or both

The fatigue can be a constant feeling or it may come or go. Moreover, the fatigue does not go away even after taking rest. Moreover, the severity of the fatigue can be so high that it disrupts your normal work, your social engagements, and your play.

Pain that can be in a single place or is widespread

The pain in CFS may be in a single location and then travel to another part. You may also suffer from:

Headache Joint pain Muscle pain Sleep-related problems

If one is suffering from CFS, he or she may have at least two or more of the following symptoms.

  • Issues related to thinking about the proper word, short-term memory, and difficulty in concentrating
  • Feeling of disorientation, slow thinking, and confusion
  • Become sensitive to emotions, noise, and light
  • Problems with muscle coordination or muscle weakness
  • Apart from the above-mentioned symptoms, CFS can also cause the symptoms mentioned below:

  • Change in appetite or weight
  • Cold hands, problem with cold or heat, sweating, cold feet and hands and low body temperature
  • Feeling more miserable when stressed
  • Frequent urination, IBS or irritable bowel syndrome, nausea
  • Dizziness and lightheadedness, breathing becoming shorter when active, rapid heartbeat
  • In the early days, symptoms of CFS look similar to several other illnesses. Moreover, the actual cause of the condition is yet to be understood well. There are some theories that point at psychological stress, viral infection or a mix of both. As there is no single cause yet to be identified for CFS, and since many other conditions produce similar signs, it can be tough to diagnose. Moreover, since there are no specific tests for CFS, your physician should rule out other possibly reasons for your fatigue. Though anyone can suffer from CFS, it is more widely seen in women in the age group of the forties and fifties. At present, since there is no direct treatment for this condition, the doctor will focus on relieving the symptoms.
