What to Expect as a New Patient at Phoenix Family Medical Clinic

When you are looking for a medical clinic in the Metro Phoenix area, many questions come up in the search and enrollment process. More often than not, your search is limited to providers that work with your insurance plan. Other factors that influence your decision likely include the following:

  • Proximity to your home, school and workplace
  • Family doctor services available
  • Referral procedures
  • Affiliated local urgent care clinics/hospitals for emergencies
  • Here at Phoenix Family Medical Clinic, our family doctors and support staff understand that as a new patient, you have many questions. We are here for you and will help clarify any of our patient policies and procedures as needed.

How Can I Schedule an Appointment with My Family Doctor at Your Phoenix Area Clinics?

Book an appointment online through our scheduling system or call the clinic nearest you. Booking your appointment ahead of time reduces the time you’ll wait to be seen. NOTE: New patients will need to arrive for their appointment 30 minutes in advance to fill out paperwork. Existing patients should arrive 10-15 minutes before their scheduled appointment.

What makes Phoenix Family Medical Clinic different than many others in the Valley is that we welcome same-day, walk-in appointments. Each clinic has their own policy and capacity for walk-in appointments, so be sure to call ahead and verify that you can be seen on the same day. Please be courteous and understand your wait time will likely be longer in these instances.

What Is Your Appointment Cancellation Policy?

We request that you call your corresponding office a full day in advance to cancel your appointment so that we can give that time slot to another patient. No-call, no-show appointments will incur a $25 fee, and we reserve the right to discharge patients from our clinic after three no-call, no-show appointments.

How Much is My Co-Pay and When Do I Need to Pay It?

Your co-pay is pre-determined by your insurance policy and due at the time of your visit. You can often find this on the front of your insurance card. This must be paid within three days of your visit and will accrue a late fee of $25 after that time. Failure to pay the co-pay up-front will reduce the chances of being seen on the same day.

If you are using insurance, we will bill the medical claim to them accordingly. Your insurance company will then bill you for any services not covered under your medical plan. As a no-insurance medical clinic, we work with the uninsured to provide medical services at their going rate. If you do not have insurance, we can go over the costs before your appointment. We no longer accept personal checks for medical services, but you can conveniently pay with cash, credit or debit card.

How Quickly Can I Receive My Test Results?

We will call you to schedule a follow-up appointment to go over any test results that you are anticipating, including blood work and imaging. If you do not receive a follow-up call within 15 days of your testing date, get in touch with your office to schedule a follow-up appointment. We are required by HIPPA Law to discuss your test results in person and cannot disclose your medical information to your spouse/family members.

What Do I Need to Do for Medication Refills?

Please contact your corresponding family clinic five days before you will run out of medication. This type of request requires advance notice because it takes time to evaluate your medical records and communicate with the pharmacy on record. Do not wait until you run out of medication to call, as this can be life-threatening. If you are prescribed narcotics, we will require you to book a follow-up appointment to evaluate your medical condition and determine whether a refill is necessary.

I Need to Go See a Specialist. How Can I Get a Referral?

If you need to see a specialist like a cardiologist or an OB/GYN, you will need to book an office appointment with us first. This allows your provider to update your medical records and connect you with specialists that fit your specific needs. Referral requests can take up to 10 business days for non-emergency patients and for patients requiring immediate care, this referral will be complete within two business days. Please note that some of our referral specialists may not be compatible with your insurance plan, so you will need to verify your coverage before seeing that provider.

It’s natural to have questions, especially when you’re searching for a new family doctor near you. Book a same-day appointment at any of our five Phoenix Family Medical Clinic locations, and we will be happy to answer any of your questions. We are now seeing patients as early as 7 a.m. and as late as 7 p.m. on select days at our Laveen and Surprise locations, and walk-ins are welcome! Please see our updated hours of operation for details.
