Our Medical Clinic Gives Laveen Residents Access to Primary Care

Our family-friendly medical clinic in Laveen, AZ turns a year old this month! Just in the past year, we can see the difference our clinic has made in meeting the primary care needs of local residents. Otherwise, many patients would need to travel about 10 to 15 minutes into the Phoenix area to seek medical care. Phoenix Family Medical helps meet this need by having a clinic right at the convenient and busy intersection of 35th Ave. and Baseline Rd.
Our family-friendly clinic provides a variety of services, including in-house laboratory tests. This allows our providers to have quick access to simple medical tests to help with the diagnosis and treatment planning process for patients. This helps make the entire visit to our physicians quick, efficient and less expensive.
All year-round, we provide the very best of pediatric care, women’s health, men’s health, and anti-aging health services in the valley. These include wellness exams, gender-specific medical concerns, and high blood pressure or cholesterol monitoring.
Each year we plan for an uptick in certain services based on environmental and seasonal needs.
- During the summer months, we tend to see more cases relating to dehydration and sports physicals for the upcoming school years.
- During the fall and winter months, we often see cases of the flu and common cold.
- The spring season sees an uptick of allergy testing and lung-related testing for asthma and other types of pulmonary-related conditions.
As we start approaching the fall season, it’s important to prepare your body for the harsh upcoming bouts of the flu. Our patients are surrounded by many opportunities to contract viruses and other kinds of airborne illnesses. This fall, we want to make sure all of our Laveen-area patients are up to date on flu shots at our local medical clinic. By getting the current year’s flu shot, you gain protection from at least three different strains of the flu. This is important to remember because the flu virus can mutate and become more resistant to the body’s efforts to fight it off without the help of a flu shot. You can read more on flu shots in our blog.
How Does the Flu Shot Work?
The antibodies in the flu shot mimic and can contain active strains of the flu to help your body develop an immunity to that type of the flu. Each year, there is a different category of the virus. The CDC reports that last year, the H1N1 variation continued to still be the strain that affected most people. The H3N2 virus was also problematic for many people in the early stages of the season, which starts as soon as late September or early October.
How Will My Body React to the Flu Shot?
A common side effect is redness or puffiness around the flu shot injection site. Since the flu shot does contain some active enzymes of the virus, you can experience cold-like symptoms. These symptoms will not be as strong as the flu itself, and it is important to note that it can take about two weeks for your body to adapt to these antibodies and develop immunity to the virus. This means it is still possible to contract the flu while vaccinated, but symptoms are typically less severe and do not last as long. When someone gets the flu without being vaccinated, it can take them anywhere from 7 to 14 days to recover.
How Much Does It Cost to Get a Flu Shot?

All insurance policies, no matter what you have, cover flu shots at no expense to you. This means there are no out of pocket expenses to our patients. For the uninsured, we do provide the flu shot at a reduced rate to make it easy and affordable to be vaccinated. Call the clinic closest to you to get an exact price and to check on availability of the vaccine.
Getting the flu shot means more than protecting just yourself. You are also protecting your family, friends and colleagues from flu exposure by being immune to the virus! It’s so affordable and convenient to stay flu-free this fall. Simply put, it pays to get a flu shot!
