Year-End Medical Tests You Should Consider

For many, November and December is a time to think about others and prepare for out-of-town visitors. However insurance companies and medical offices throughout the nation see this time of year as the crunch time for preventative medical care and tests, as well as an opportune time to use remaining dollars from flexible or health spending accounts, also known as FSA or HSA.

As a discount primary care provider in Tempe, Phoenix and Surprise, Phoenix Family Medical Clinic wants you to know about which medical tests you should consider for last minute preventative health care. We provide some in-house testing and blood draws to conveniently save you time, so you can use up your FSA or HAS funds in a timely manner.

Here are some affordable medical tests for the uninsured in Phoenix to take advantage of before the year ends:

Annual Physicals

When you visit any of our affordable medical clinics throughout the Phoenix, AZ area, you can get a full physical done in-house to assess your body mass index, diabetes risk, heart and lung health, and even joint assessments. Annual physicals check for common health issues from head to toe and helps you assess your needs for preventative health care.

Well-Woman Exams

October was breast cancer awareness month, and we covered why self-breast exams should be done throughout the year in our last blog. Pap smears, on the other hand, are an annual test to check for abnormal cell growth within the cervix. These are a great preventative tool in diagnosing any early signs of the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is commonly connected with cervical cancer. Depending on a woman’s health history, genetics and life stage, pap smears are recommended annually, but your primary care provider may instruct you otherwise.

In contrast, a well-men’s exam can also help detect early symptoms of prostate cancer and any forms of erectile dysfunction. Both male and female-specific annual exams can help give your primary care provider consistent monitoring of your pre-existing health conditions.

Cholesterol and Blood Pressure Checks

When you visit our walk in clinic in the West or East Valley, we can do in-house blood draws to check your cholesterol levels, as well as your iron, hemoglobin and white cell count for heart and blood pressure health. Our nurse practitioners and primary care providers will also listen to your heart rhythms to check for any abnormalities. We also offer EKG testing at all of our clinics to help us better detect any arrhythmia.

Pre-Diabetes Testing

Diabetes is a significant epidemic throughout the U.S. Diabetic-like symptoms and health conditions as a result from the disease plague quite a few of our walk-in patients. Our pre-diabetes testing includes blood draws, glucose tests and more. Common complications from diabetes include heart conditions, worsening eyesight, kidney failure, nerve damage, and unexplained water retention.

Colorectal Health

If you are over 40 years of age, it is time for your primary care provider to discuss common digestive health conditions and symptoms of worsening problems. While we cannot provide colonoscopy or endoscopy exams in-house, we do work with other outpatient testing facilities around the Valley to help you monitor conditions such as diverticulitis, GERD and even colorectal cancer.

Our staff is also fully trained to help educate you on skin, lung and oral cancer prevention and care. You can also be tested for sexually transmitted diseases or sexually-transmitted viruses.

We are here to help you with many types of preventative health care. Feel free to book online for any of our five locations throughout the Phoenix area, including our newest one in Laveen, to get assistance in using up your remaining FSA or HAS dollars. We also work with the uninsured and accept walk in patients. Check out our locations page for detailed maps and office-specific phone numbers for inquiries.
