Chronic Pain Management Treatment at PFMC

For many Phoenix residents, the impending monsoon season brings a wave of headaches, migraines and joint pain. The biggest catalyst for these conditions is the change in air pressure, which typically results in joint pain as well as headaches. During this time of year, our healthcare providers see a rise in patients seeking pain relief to manage these symptoms. If you are experiencing chronic pain, Phoenix Family Medical Clinic wants to help you achieve better health with our many pain management services.

If you are experiencing knee or shoulder pain, our providers can assess whether you have join or tissue injury around these regions and determine where your inflammation is the worst. Their diagnosis may qualify you for joint injections. The injections occur after the area has been sterilized and numbed by Lidocaine. There are two types of injections: anesthetic combination with corticosteroid to combat inflammation or the intra-articular steroid injections to help combat Osteoarthritis. These injections assist or replace the joint fluid (hyaluronan), which lubricates joints. For more information about the effectiveness and treatment plans for joint injections, check out our joint injections page!

Your assessment by our providers could alternatively reveal skeletal muscle inflammation and compromised function. To treat this type of condition, we offer trigger point injections. These are most commonly applied for neck or shoulder pain. There are many musculoskeletal disorders that usually result in muscle spasms and pain due to touch. The most common is known as Fibromyalgia, a condition where your nerves are overactive and indicate pain at the slightest of touch. Our trigger point injections help combat the cycle of muscle spasms and have the best results when combined with muscle therapy and/or strength training. We invite you to learn more about trigger point injections!

We formerly used trigger point injections to help combat tension headaches, but with new medicinal technology and treatment options, we now offer a nasal treatment that is more effective for chronic migraines and tension headaches! The new transnasal application we offer helps block the Sphenopalatine Ganglion (SGP), which is located at the end nasal passage, between your sinuses and back of throat. Do not confuse this with the uvula, the node that hangs in the back of your throat. The SGP is home to many neurons, the largest amount in your body apart from your brain. SGP treatment is six weeks long with a total of 12 applications to significantly reduce symptoms of headache and/or migraines. Want to learn more? No matter which Phoenix Family Medical Clinic location you visit, rest assured that all of these treatments are available at each of our clinics. We also offer full children’s, women’s and men’s health diagnosis and treatments. To promote our integrative medicine and overall wellbeing of all patients, we do not offer narcotics at any of our facilities. Book your appointment online with us today!
