Q & A with Phoenix Family Medical’s Nathan Payne PA-C

In case you have not heard or noticed, Phoenix Family Medical Clinic now has a new location at McDowell Road and Third Avenue near downtown Phoenix. One of the main providers at this location is Nathan Payne PA-C, who joined Phoenix Family Medical Clinic in 2013. Join us as we discuss with him some of the benefits Phoenix residents can find at this location!
What is the professional background of yourself and your colleagues at this location?
I graduated from Brigham Young University (2009) with a major in exercise science and a minor in psychology. I then attended Philadelphia University (2013) to study medicine. I have experience in family, pediatric and urgent care medicine with skills in outpatient procedural interventions including laceration repair, toenail resection, abscess treatment and EKG analysis.
My colleagues are Dr. James Evans, MD, who is the Medical Director at the clinic, and Nurse Practitioner, ChuJun Fryson, who specializes in Family Adult practice. I should also add that Dr. Evans is board certified for Internal Medicine.
Why do you believe your current and prospective patients will enjoy your care at Phoenix Family Medical?
I believe my patients will find a provider that genuinely cares for their well-being and provides a comfortable clinical environment. I take the time to listen and educate my patients about their health problems and routine preventative care.

How does Phoenix Family Medical Clinic differ from the other urgent care or walk-in clinics here in the Phoenix area?
The difference between our clinic and other urgent care or walk-in clinics is “continuity.” When a patient goes to an urgent care, they typically do not see the same provider or have consistency in medical recording.
At our clinic, however, they will develop a relationship of trust with the medical provider, allowing for more optimal care. We treat the patient as an individual and provide excellent service as pertains to call backs, test results feedback, quick referrals to specialists, short wait times and general communication.
Are there any new services offered at this clinic’s location?
We recently added an EKG machine, and we do all our blood draws in the clinic for patient convenience. We are working on adding allergy testing and pulmonary testing at this particular clinic.
Are there any services NOT offered at this clinic’s location?
We do not prescribe narcotic medicines like Oxycodone, Percocet or Vicodin at the clinic or any of them for that matter. Patients who may need these types of medications are referred to pain management specialists.
Which of the clinic's services do you think are ultimately important for your patients?
Our services are convenient. Within this one location, you can be seen quickly, get your blood work done, receive vaccinations and get prescribed fast-acting medications. Patients can expect to see same-day and walk-in appointment availability at this and all of our clinic locations!
What type of impact do you personally want to make to the downtown Phoenix area and its residents?
I want to provide quality healthcare and help people feel better. I do not practice the type of medicine where I just throw pain pills at people all day. All of us here will focus on disease prevention and treatment of underlying causes to allow for permanent solutions to the areas healthcare problems.
