How Sports Players Can Avoid Back Pain?

As Spring comes, sports-related injuries and back pain quickly start rising. According to an estimate, approximately 30 percent of athletes suffer from back pain at some point or the other while they are actively involved in their sport. This phenomenon is not something unusual in the field of sports related injuries.

In many cases, back pain in players may not be that serious and can be conditioned after minor treatment. Small actions like staying away from activities that could be aggravating a player’s back pain or gentle stretching go a long way towards alleviating back pains in sportsmen who suffer from minor back pain. But if a sportsman finds that the back pain is too much for him or her, it is always recommended to approach a physician before it can get worse.

Here are some of the easy ways that players can deploy for preventing back pain.

Swimming can help to alleviate back pain

Swimming is an excellent form of exercise that helps in conditioning the back muscles of an affected player and also is beneficial for conditioning the core. Players can also regard swimming as an excellent form of a cross-training solution since it is considered to be a superb form of aerobic exercise.

Never be careless with the kind of equipment that should be worn or used while playing a particular type of sports

This is indeed an important requirement for all such forms of sports that require a high level of contact. Examples of such sports could be soccer and hockey. There are specially designed gadgets and padding that have been specifically designed for providing some kind of protection for a player’s back. So, it makes sense for the players not to be careless in choosing those equipments so that back pain in future could be avoided.

Players must not ignore the importance of indulging in some warm up sessions before they start with the actual game or sports

It is extremely important for players to condition their body muscles before they proceed with their actual game. The process of preventing back related injuries while playing on a field commences with doing some warm-up exercises like cardio and stretching. A player can also add a few exercises for strengthening his or her core muscles. If a player overexerts his or body muscles without proper conditioning, the muscles could be vulnerable to conditions like sprains or strains.

Exercise for cooling down a player’s muscles is as important as warm-up sessions

While many-a-times it has been observed that players are diligent about going through the warm up sessions before they start their actual sports, they tend to overlook the fact proper cooling downs sessions are also needed after a hectic round of sports. Players should go through proper cooling down sessions so that their bodies can be brought to a secure state of resting and prevent occurrences of tight and sore areas that could lead to back related injuries. Players must make it a regular practice to stretch their overworked body muscles gently so that there is no tightness in them before the next round of strenuous physical activity.
