Back Pain Can Be Reduced by Becoming More Active Physically

There are many experts who claim that leisure time activity or exercise can protect your body from developing chronic pain in the lower back. The physical activity should be done regularly and can include exercises like walking or intense physical activities so that the threats related to your lower back pain can be reduced up to 16 percentage, according to the findings of a recent study. Previously, it was not quite clear if indulging in physical activity can prevent lower back pain or whether people who do not suffer from back pain were active or not.

Findings of a recent study

When reviews were conducted on clinical trials, they indicated that the intensity of lower back pain can be reduced along with its recurrence. Additionally, the recent review also suggested that any leisure time activity or exercise can protect the human body from developing chronic pain in the lower back.

It was also inferred by some researchers that highly or moderately active human beings had a reduced chance of developing such pain, the figures being quoted was 16 percent or 14 percent less than those people who were completely inactive. But, what is a chronic pain? It is a pain that is experienced for a minimum of 90 days or more. Such a pain also may last for over one month within the previous one year. However, when the back pain was occasional or acute, physical activities did not seem to have created a difference as far as the risk of lower back pain was concerned.

Limitations of the study

However, the authors of the study also noted that the limitations included certain factors that were not taken into consideration while arriving at this conclusion like smoking, depression or job-related physical exertion that are all related to risks of experiencing lower back pain and not indulging in any kind of physical activity.

The study also included only a few young adults or elderly people to ascertain and establish the positive impact of physical activity as applicable for different age groups or not. It is more likely that the older people are more prone to being inactive due to their back pain.

Recommended physical activities

Today, an increasing number of people are getting more aware about the importance of physical activities and exercising. Typically, your starting point could be to make a habit of regular walking, which is an example of low-intensity exercise. Another example of low impact physical activity is swimming that puts less pressure on the back. However, despite that, you can get plenty of cardiovascular fitness through it.

Avoid starting your tryst with physical activity through sports like tennis, baseball, and golf that involve plenty of turns and twists unless adequate precautionary measures are taken so that your back condition does not get even worse. In case you feel slightly sore after doing your exercise in the beginning, but feel alright later on and the following day does not feel worse, it is a symptom that all is well as far as the way your body is responding to the physical activity.
