Top Tips to Keep Your Back Healthy

Back pain can be quite a traumatic experience at times for many, However, the good news is that it is possible to keep your back healthy and in right shape,

Check out these tips for keeping your back healthy, so that you do not suffer from back pain or back injury.

Keep your weight in check

When you take care to control your body weight, it can keep your back in good form and also offers several other benefits related to health, When you carry additional weight, your back has to bear extra stress and so is the case with other body parts such as ankle, foot, knee and hip.

Quit smoking

Smoking can lead to various adverse effects on your health. However, only some people are aware that your back can also get affected due to smoking, It has been observed that people who smoke are more susceptible to back pain as compared to nonsmokers since nicotine limits the blood flow to your discs, which otherwise cushion the vertebrae. Thus, smoking can affect your intervertebral discs and your spine's shock absorbers, which can make them dry. As a result, they start functioning in a less effective manner. The end result could be stiffness and back pain and leading to your back suffering from arthritis. There are several treatments to quit smoking these days ranging from hypnotherapy to vaporizers. But, do consult your family doctor before trying them out.

Use proper postures while sleeping

Your back may have to bear lots of pressure when you sleep on it. This pressure can be almost reduced by half when you put two pillows under the knees. Alternatively, when you lie on your side while inserting a pillow between the knees, the pressure is reduced.

Regular exercising is good for your back

Forces acting on your back could be high. So, it is important to maintain good control of the muscles in your spine so that injuries can be prevented and back pain can be improved. You can do some aerobic exercises regularly along with some other exercises, which can strengthen the core muscles, For instance, exercises like Pilates, yoga are very good for the health of your spine. Such exercises are also helpful to maintain your body's flexibility and balance both. You should also include some exercises for your back and abdominal muscles in your daily routine for maintaining good health. In order to get complete benefit from exercising and to get healthy back muscles and strong abs, the complete set of exercise will just take around twenty minutes maximum,

Be careful while you move heavy objects

Always remember that pushing objects is better than pulling them. In case you have to lift or move a heavy object, ask somebody to assist you. You should be using your legs and arms to begin pushing the object.

Proper way to lift objects

Put one foot completely flat on the floor while kneeling down on the other knee. Your body should be closest to the object you are about to lift. Always remember that you should never use your back but your knees to lift the object while ensuring that it remains in close contact with your body while lifting it up.
