Symptoms and Treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

CFS or Chronic fatigue syndrome is a physical condition that makes you feel completely exhausted. The tiredness is to such an extent that you won’t be able to complete your daily and normal activities. There is no known cause of chronic fatigue syndrome and it is quite tough to diagnose. However, treatment can be done to cure its major symptoms.

Symptoms of CFS

The symptoms of CFS may not be the same every day. In fact they can even change within the same day. The symptoms may stop which is known as remission and relapse i.e. to start again. The core symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome are as follows:

  • Mental or physical fatigue to its extreme . Sometimes both can happen simultaneously to you. It can either keep coming or going or can be constant. Even after you take rest, it does not get relieved. The severity of this fatigue is so high that it interferes with your social activities, play and work.
  • A feeling of being unwell after being active . This may signify that you are feeling week or ill or the symptoms for your CFS have deteriorated further. It may take up to 24 hours to feel good once again.

· Sleeping related problems.

  • Pain that can either be in one place or can even be widespread . Pain related to CFS may occur in one area and then move to some other area. You may experience a headache, pain in your joint or muscle pain.

If you are suffering from CFS, you can also have two or more of the following symptoms:

· The problem in getting the right word, memory for a short-time or problem in concentrating properly.

· Sensitivity to emotions, noise or light.

· A feeling of disorientation, slow thinking or confusion.

· Problems with muscle coordination or weakness in the muscle.

Treatment of CFS

As on date, there is no permanent cure for CFS or chronic fatigue syndrome. The most important method to live with CFS is by treating its symptoms. You need to find a reputed clinic that has hired expert doctors who understand the condition well and will support you to feel better. Use an ideal mix of support, medical care and daily self-care to treat the symptoms of CFS.

  • Treating the worst symptoms first

Start the process by listing down those worst symptoms that have been hitting you. The ones that are toughest to deal with during the day should be discussed with your physician on priority. Therefore, the focus should be to get the worst symptoms treated first.

  • Sleep

When you develop good sleeping habits, it helps in improving your sleeping quality. If you want to try out some medicines for sleep, make sure that you consult with your doctor first. It is always recommended to start with a low dose.

Different types of treatments may be recommended by your physicians for different kinds of pain. When a particular treatment does not give you good results, your doctor may propose another type of treatment till you know what will be best to relieve you from your pain. Some of these treatments include massage, acupuncture, antidepressants for your chronic pain or pain relievers that are available over-the-counter. However, in the end, your doctor knows the best and would suggest the best possible treatment for CFS.
