Why Wellness Checks Are Important

More often than not, patients will visit a physician only when they are sick. What many fail to realize is wellness checks ensure that their health is being maintained at proper levels to prevent any future illnesses or diseases.

This month is cervical cancer and thyroid awareness month. Here at Phoenix Family Medical Clinic, we offer a large range of services including women’s health, anti-aging medicine, men’s health and children’s health. Depending on your sex and your type of wellness examination, there may be tests conducted to provide preliminary information in your overall care. These tests are necessary to provide vital information as to how you rank in comparison both to your prior results (if any), as well as in comparison to the general considerations of normal. Once marked on your chart, it will provide a basis of comparison for your next wellness visit, so we can monitor your improvement and other factors.

For women’s health wellness checks, we often conduct pap smears: a test that provides preliminary information of whether or not a woman may have any cancerous cervical cells or a virus commonly known as HPV (human papillomavirus). For men’s health wellness checks, we often perform a prostate check to monitor how large your prostate is. Enlarged prostates, when accompanied by other symptoms, are generally a warning sign for potentially cancerous prostates.

Children’s vaccinations are one of the primary focuses we have for children’s health and wellness. Vaccinations provide a child with antibodies to help build up their immune system against common illnesses present in unvaccinated and vaccinated children. We keep meticulous records of your child’s shot records to ensure that their vaccinations are up to date and effectively working for their wellness. Other services we provide target arthritis, joint pain, diabetes management, hormone replacement therapy, allergy testing, and other chronic or sex-specific issues.

Many viruses and other diseases have unknown causes, but routine monitoring of your overall health helps provide clues as to whether a condition can formulate or become an issue for you. Wellness checks provide us the opportunity to also educate you on any potential health threats. Your family history also plays a role in how we inform you on warning signs of any genetic issues.
